All of us are created in the image of God with varying degrees of distortions. We don’t always reflect him that well. A mirror reflects the image as it hits the mirror. If white light hits the mirror – it will reflect white light. Whereas if white light hits a prism it will break down the white light into its various parts and send out many reflections of that light – reflecting different attributes of that light through the crystal prism. And each one of us when we look into a mirror we are only seeing a two dimensional image that doesn’t really distinguish between the various attributes of light that hit it. But when the glory of God shines into and passes through the prism that is us human being; the various communicable attributes of God are distinguished from one another by that unique crystal. And so the various attributes of God’s character are put on display to all those around us. Therefore we are infinitely valuable and unique.
When a prism is smeared with dirt and grime it casts but a poor reflection of the light. God’s glory is seen through us darkly. But as the sanctification process continues in us and through us, then the communicable attributes of God - his love, grace, mercy, justice, and truth - all those attributes that are communicated through humans – as we are being cleaned up by the holy spirit. Then the glory of God and the relationship we have with God opens us up so that God’s glory shines into us and through us and has a much more beautiful reflection into the world around us.
